This is how to pray for people who are sick

"Allah does not burden a person except according to his ability," (Surah Al-Baqarah: 286).

A sick person is not the same as a healthy person. Everyone should try to carry out their obligations according to their respective abilities. So that the beauty of the Shari'ah and its convenience can be seen.

Before knowing the procedure for praying, among the laws relating to sick people in their prayers, it is permissible for him to join together (combine) between the Zuhur and Asr prayers, Maghrib and Isha prayers either with jama' taqdim or ta'khir.

This is looking at the easiest for him. As for the Fajr prayer, it cannot be combined because the time is separate from the prayer before and after it. Among the basis of this ability is the hadith of Ibnu Abbas, may God be pleased with him, which states:

"The Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, has prayed between Zuhur and Ashar, Maghrib and Isha' in the city of Madinah without fear or rain. Abu Kuraib said: I asked Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with him: Why did he do that? He, may God be pleased with him, replied: In order not to trouble his people," (HR. Muslim no. 705)

How to pray for a sick person

And that convenience is knowing the prayer procedures of the sick according to the instructions of the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, and the explanations of the scholars.

a. It is obligatory for people who are sick to pray standing up if they are able and do not worry that the illness will get worse, because standing in obligatory prayer is one of its pillars.

b. A sick person who is able to stand but is unable to bow or prostrate still does not lose the obligation to stand. He should pray standing up and if he cannot bow then bow down to bow. If he is unable to bend his back at all then it is enough to bow his neck, then sit and bow down to bow in a sitting position by bringing his face as close to the ground as possible.

c. Sick people who are unable to stand should perform the obligatory prayer while sitting.

d. A sick person who is unable to pray standing and sitting can do it by lying on his side, can by leaning to the right or to the left with his face towards the Qiblah. This is done based on the words of the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, in the hadith of Imrân bin al-Hushain:

"Pray standing, if you can't do it then sit down and if you can't do it then lie down," (HR. Al-Bukhari. No. 1117).

e. A sick person who is unable to lie on his side, can pray lying on his back and facing his feet towards the Qibla because this is closer to standing. For example, if the qibla is west, then put your head in the east and your feet in the west.

f. If he is unable to face the Qiblah and there is no one to direct him or help direct him to the Qiblah, then pray according to the situation.

g. People who are sick and unable to do all of the above. He was unable to move his body parts and unable to move his eyes, so he prayed with his heart. Prayer remains obligatory as long as one's mind is still healthy.
