Ask for forgiveness with the Prayer of Repentance

Repentance prayer is a prayer performed when we commit a sin. The law is sunnah. The basis is the hadith of Ali r.a. who said, I am a man who has a habit of hearing a hadith from the Prophet SAW, I will immediately take advantage of it as much as I can. But if I hear it through one of his friends, I will ask him to swear. When he has sworn, I will believe him. Abu Bakar narrated a hadith to me, and it is true what Abu Bakar said. He said, I once heard the Prophet SAW say,

"There is no servant who commits a sin, then he performs ablution properly and then stands up and prays two rak'ahs, after that he asks for forgiveness from God, but surely God will forgive him."

Then he read the following verse, "And those who, when they commit abominations or oppress themselves, remember Allah and ask for forgiveness for their sins; who can forgive sins but Allah, so they did not continue their heinous deeds while they knew." (Ali Imran: 135)

Shaykhul Islam Ibnu Taimiyah chooses the opinion that the sunnah prayer of repentance can be performed during the prohibition period. Because repentance must be done directly. The perpetrator continues to be burdened with sin until he prays two rak'ahs.
